Castle Rock Maze of Terror Review

0

Location: 100 S Wilcox St, Castle Rock, CO 80104

“This isn’t Disney World, it’s a Maze of Terror” is the last line written on the somewhat tongue in cheek list of do’s and don’ts for Castle Rock’s Maze of Terror. Located in South Castle Rock beside MedVed, I had heard of this new attraction and being the haunted house connoisseur that I am, I couldn’t wait to try it out. Thursday night after watching the first half of the football game at DCHS, I called up some of my friends and invited them to join me for a night of haunting fun.

As soon as we walked up, we were greeted by some of the scariest characters I’ve witnessed. Having been to most of the haunted houses and mazes around the Denver metro area, I was super impressed with the amount of detail that went into the makeup, costumes and acting. This maze quickly jumped to the top of the list of my favorite haunted activities to do around the area.

Owner and founder, Nanci Simmons greeted us with a smile, but that was quickly scared away by the evil clown sneaking up behind us while we were told the rules of the maze. Nanci described the maze as “designed to get people a little disorientated, create the ‘jump’ factor, be fun and terrifying all at the same time.”

Her description was incredibly accurate. With only a glow stick as a light to guide us, we walked hesitantly around each corner and into dead ends, trying to find the exit before the next character would pop out and scare the living daylights out of us.

It was very obvious not too far in how it was possible that grown men had wet themselves from being scared, a story that Nanci told us before we started.

With tomorrow being Halloween, there is no doubt that the maze will only be scarier than before. If you’re into this kind of stuff, I highly recommend making the trip to the Maze of Terror. Beware though, it is incredibly frightening and as long as you don’t touch the creatures, they won’t touch you.

The Maze of Terror opens at dusk and stays open until midnight on Friday and Saturday. They close at 10pm on Sunday.  November 1st will be “Black Out” night with absolutely no lights at all. It is about 35 minutes in length to get through. For more information, check out their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/mazeofterror.net/

Homeless Pets Need Your Help Sunday

Cat at the Buddy Center

Animal lovers from all over the state will be glued to their television sets for The Dumb Friends League’s annual ‘Pledges for Pets Telethon.’ In its 18th year, the fundraiser hopes to bring in more than $300,000 to help provide loving care and vital services for thousands of cats, dogs and other small animals, as well as formerly abused and neglected horses at the Dumb Friends League Harmony Equine Center™.

Those who wish to donate will have the chance to do so by calling, texting and making online donations while the event airs, from noon to 5 p.m. – all while enjoying watching adorable adoptable pets, heartwarming stories about adopted animals and getting a sneak-peak of what’s new at the animal shelter. “Viewers will see the many ways the Dumb Friends League helps pets, horses and people in our community,” said Bob Rohde, president and CEO. “They’ll also see how their donations can make a life-changing difference for thousands of homeless animals that come into our care every year.”

Each year, the private, nonprofit organization, spends over $25,000 a day on companion animal services, with another $8,000 plus (daily) being spent on veterinary care and its two mobile spay/neuter trucks. And the cost is well worth it when  looking at the numbers. In 2014, the Dumb Friends League found more than 17,500 pets new homes, reunited animals with owners and/or relocated others to similar animal friendly facilities. The donations also help them provide services like humane education for owners, rehabilitation for abused animals and training for pets with behavior issues.

Tune into to Fox31 this Sunday, from noon to 5 p.m., to see how you can make a difference in an animal’s life!
